Professor Department of Fine Arts University of Dhaka Professor Jamal Ahmed was born in Dhaka in 1955. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, in 1978. From 1980 to 1982, he did a two years research course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1982, he moved to Japan and studied oil painting at the University of Tsukuba and earned a post-graduate degree from there. Ahmed was a visiting teacher and artist in residence in the Art and Design Department at the North Carolina State University in 1995. A leading realist painter, his iconic series on pigeons, horses, boats, gypsies, flood victims, fishermen, marine life and the troubadours of Bangladesh have found a place in the hearts of many. Working and refining his realistic oeuvre over time, Ahmed feels that spontaneity is an important aspect of art. In addition to numerous awards, the artist received the Ekushey Padak in 2020. Professor Jamal Ahmed is currently a professor at the Department of Drawing & Painting in the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka. As of 2019, Ahmed is the president of Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad.
